Statoil: International Expansion
The merger of Statoil and the oil and gas division of Norsk Hydro in November 2007 created the world’s largest offshore oil and gas production group and Norway’s premier corporation.
Since May 2008, a core team of communications experts from Hill+Knowlton Strategies’ Brussels, Oslo and London offices have worked with Statoil, along with other branding, advertising and design agencies, to develop a Global Communications Strategy that will support the medium-term business objectives and international ambitions of the newly merged entity. In Russia, PBN H+K Strategies worked with Stavanger and in-country management to design and implement a market entry strategy and government and industry relationship building program in the lead up to and initial stages of Statoil’s Shtokman partnership with Gazprom and Total. This included extensive mapping of government officials and Gazprom decision makers, the creation of a Russian-specific positioning strategy for the company and the design and execution of an advertorial print campaign.
