David Bowen Joins H+K Strategies as Global Head of Healthcare Practice
We are pleased to announce the appointment of David Bowen as the new global head of our healthcare practice. Effective July 1, Bowen will oversee the work of a healthcare team that is one of the most experienced in the industry and our second-largest global sector practice.
Bowen joins H+K Strategies with a career spanning medicine, public service and education.
Having most recently served as CEO of Malaria No More, a global nonprofit dedicated to ending deaths from malaria, Bowen holds a BA from Brown University and a Ph.D. in neurobiology from the University of California at San Francisco.
Early in his career, he worked in a lab performing Parkinson’s disease-related stem cell research. Bowen has served as a visiting professor for the department of healthcare policy at Harvard Medical School and as deputy director of global health policy and advocacy for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In addition, he was instrumental in shepherding President Obama’s landmark healthcare bill through the Senate as staff director for health of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions under Chairman Sen. Ted Kennedy.
“I’m honored to be selected for this exciting role that brings together two of the more dynamic fields in modern life – health sciences and communication,” said Bowen. “It’s exciting to be at a nexus of these two fields, and in particular I look forward to being there with the extraordinarily impressive team at Hill+Knowlton Strategies.”
On the appointment, Global Chairman and CEO Jack Martin said, “The changes confronting the healthcare industry are unprecedented, from an increase in worldwide demand for medical services, to skyrocketing costs, to increased regulation and wavering public trust. David’s strong international pedigree and tremendous reputation throughout the healthcare world are unparalleled, making him the exact trusted advisor CEOs and other organizational leaders are looking for to help them navigate this change and drive real business value. I’m thrilled to welcome him to the H+K Strategies family.”
